John McCain’s NCAA Picks? Not Good!
The NCAA Tournament kicks into full swing tomorrow, with millions of sports fans rushing to the web to fill out their brackets on Yahoo! and ESPN.com.
Or maybe JohnMcCain.com.
Yes. For whatever reason, Arizona Senator and presidential hopeful John McCain is hosting a basketball pool on his campaign website.
Winners get a McCain 2008 fleece, hat or pin. Oooh. You can even compare your picks with McCain’s, although the Senator might want to rethink his selections between now and noon tomorrow. His picks make it clear why some in the GOP are still looking at other candidates.
Now maybe this is just a clever way of soliciting campaign contributions, since Mitt Romney seems to have cornered the conservative market. But for someone with an unpopular Iraq war position and being branded as out of touch, this weak bracket isn’t going to do him any favors.
John McCain has selected all four #1 seeds - Florida, North Carolina, Kansas, Ohio State - to make the Final Four.
Not only has that never happened before, but this year’s #2-4 seeds are considered particularly strong. We’d be shocked if more than two #1s made it, and can almost guarantee you that Rudy Giuliani does better in his own campaign’s pool.
