The Barack Obama-Tony Rezko Connection

Thanks to a remark by Hillary Clinton during Monday’s debate, everybody’s talking about Barack Obama and Tony Rezko.

Tony Rezko already was a story in Chicago, accused of influence-peddling in the administration of Gov. Rod Blagojevich and set to face trial February 25. But what is his connection to Barack Obama?

When Clinton blasted Obama for having represented “your contributor, Rezko, in his slum landlord business in inner-city Chicago,” the Illinois senator was visibly upset - and the public intrigued.

For those of us having a hard time keeping track of the facts amid the brawling between Obama and Clinton, the Chicago Sun-Times has compiled a list of things we should know:

- Tony Rezko and Barack Obama met in 1990. Obama was a student at Harvard Law School and got an unsolicited job offer from Rezko, a low-income housing developer in Chicago. Obama turned it down.

- Barack Obama took a job in 1993 with a small Chicago law firm, Davis Miner Barnhill, that represents developers - primarily not-for-profit groups - building low-income housing with government funds.
