Reading Between the Lines of Hillary Clinton Quotes

We know it’s part of politics, but for Barack Obama to be tagged with the all-talk, no action / empty rhetoric label strikes us as ridiculous. Especially given some of the statements of his chief rival made in her victory speech Tuesday night.

For someone who says they stand for action and not talk, the former First Lady sure offered up some awfully broad, empty and misleading remarks in Ohio.

Below are some choice Hillary Clinton quotes from March 4, followed by a brief translation / rebuttal of each by the Donkey Dish editorial board.

Hillary Clinton: “No candidate in recent history, Democrat or Republican, has won the White House without winning the Ohio primary.”

Donkey Dish: Given the state’s late billing on the primary calendar, can anyone even remember the last time March 4 primaries were even contested?

Clinton, Hillary Rodham

Hillary Clinton: “If we want a Democratic president, we need a nominee who can win the battleground states, just like Ohio. And that is what we’ve done. We’ve won Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Michigan, New Hampshire, Arkansas, California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Oklahoma and Tennessee.”

Donkey Dish: That’s about it. Never mind that two of those didn’t count, or that Obama polls better against John McCain, or that he has won more popular votes nationally, of that he’s taken many more states, including Missouri, Colorado and other “red state” staples he alone might bring into play in November.

Hillary Clinton: “More and more people have joined this campaign, and millions of Americans haven’t spoken yet. In states like Pennsylvania and so many others, people are watching this historic campaign, and they want their turn to help make history. They want their voices to count, and they should. They should be heard.”

Donkey Dish: That is, unless you’re one of the superdelegates. In that case, please don’t listen to the people! Slightly more voters picked Obama, after all.

Hillary Clinton: “I want to end by sharing with you a message that I got late last month from someone who didn’t have much money to spare, but sent me $10 for my campaign and sent an e-mail in which she wrote, “‘My two daughters are two and four. And we chant and cheer for you at every speech we see. I want them to know anything is possible.’”

Donkey Dish: We respect the historic nature of both Democrats’ bid for the White House, but has she forgotten who she’s running against?

Hillary Clinton: “Americans don’t need more promises. They’ve heard plenty of speeches. They deserve solutions, and they deserve them now. America needs a president who’s ready to lead, to stand up for what’s right even when it’s hard.”

Donkey Dish: Like voting against the war, right, Hillary? What solutions have been proposed to differentiate her from Obama? It’s the Democratic party! Most of what we’ve heard this winter is idealism and populism - more promise than anything else. Mocking speeches within a speech is pretty classic, as well.

While these aren’t George W. Bush quotes by any means, there’s a disturbing lack of substance to be found here from someone so “ready to lead.”

Time for the Obama camp to turn up the heat as this war of attrition. Fast.

Hillary is a master of Bush and Rove’s dirty underhanded politics as everyone has to be today if they want to be competitive. It really stinks.
I don’t know if you have been following events in Texas and Ohio but there are many major counties with all kinds of inequities and stolen and missing ballots. It bothers me because the MSM is complicit so you don’t hear anything on this or anything else of consequence. I absolutely 100% expect the election stolen again one way or the other. We seem powerless to enforce honesty!

Wow, you sure can slant it. tFirst, the saying is “as OH goes so does the nation”. Learn it. Are you that obtuse? As for polls, yeah, we saw how well that turned out for Kerry on election day. And the whole process of Dem elections sucks — caucuses(?!!), Iowa going first, delegates, superdelegates, MI & FL being deleted, which, by the way, was not Hillary’s fault. Blame Howard Dean for disenfranchising millions of voters. Credit Hillary for not ignoring them. Note BOTH Obama & HIllary took MI and OH $$$$ and BOTH ran ads in those states. Obama should stop whining. As for history, Obama is HALF black, conveniently so, depending on whom he is speaking to. Also, colleagues in IL don’t remember his unifying, but rather his AMBITION. He did precious little for IL, threw some attention to black causes, but that is it as he stepped on IL to ladder up. Seemed to have plenty of time for buddy Tony Rezko, though. And btw, Obama does little but parrot Hillary’s stances on every issue. Last debate: “Hillary is actually right” says Obama. And on Putin’s successor: basically a “yeah, what she just said” in response to the question of their take on the new Russian.
