Michael Pfleger Apologizes for Hillary Clinton Mockery
Priests continue to give Barack Obama problems.
First, of course, there was Jeremiah Wright.
Now, Michael Pfleger - a Catholic priest at St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church on Chicago’s southwest side - has been forced to apologize for his mockery of Hillary Clinton crying before the New Hampshire primary in January.
During the sermon Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Pfleger wipes his eyes with a handkerchief and suggests Clinton grew teary-eyed not for political gain - but because she was dismayed as a white person and former First Lady; she figured she was entitled to the presidency.
“And then, out of nowhere, came ‘Hey, I’m Barack Obama,’” Pfleger mocked, to laughs and cheers from the congregation. “And [Clinton] said, ‘Oh damn, where did you come from? I’m white! I’m entitled! There’s a black man stealing my show!’”
Senator Obama condemned this divisive act, Clinton’s campaign challenged Obama to do so more specifically and forcefully - and then Pfleger apologized for his comments last night.
“I regret the words I chose on Sunday,” he said in a statement. “These words are inconsistent with Sen. Obama’s life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Sen. Clinton or anyone else who saw them.”
A Donkey Dish staff writer has written a commentary on this issue. See if you agree with his stance NOW.

This guy is a nut just like all the others who support Sen. Obama. I hope White America realizes what is going on here and will think twice about voting for this snake in the grass. How anyone can be fooled by this man is beyond me. But wait, didn’t the devil deceive Adam and Eve in the garden. Here we go again…………..
May 30th, 2008 at 8:06 am
This is sickening. Not only what this priest said bothered me, but also the reaction of the congregation was obscene. Obama is a fraud. It is proven more and more everyday. The Dems will make a huge error by making him the nominee….
May 30th, 2008 at 8:07 am
Wanda Reed: Are you stupid or just pure ignorant. It has nothing to do with white or black america. Rev. Pfleger is white and catholic!! If you want to be prejudice, then I guess that is YOUR right. But, stop trying to divide the voters by black and white. News Flash: White voters are voting for Barack. He is of mixed race himeself. And, he is capable of being a great president.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:08 am
So. This guy is right after all. He has nothing to apologize for. Hillary called everybody who is not white, lazy. She has used her gender card more often than the dealer in the busiest Las Vegas casino. Hillary wants to become president because Bill says she deserves it? So what should he apologize for?
May 30th, 2008 at 8:16 am
What happened to separation of church and state? I am a devout Catholic and never in my entire life have I attended a church or heard a priest “preach” to a congregation in such a way as to personally attack a politician in a way that attempts to demean them. It is appropriate to give guidance on issues that affect living a good life, but how inappropriate to attack a person of Senator Clinton’s position and accomplishments just to try to influence a crowd to vote for their chosen person.
THis is really appalling and very very scary. This is plainly repulsive that this man again, is someone Obama gathers support from. Then the apology is obviously so artificial. What is worse is that people in that congregation accept that type of mockery.
Much of Obama’s campaign appears to be about negativism and phony acting. The leaders of the Democratic party really need to ask themselves about how much do they know about Obama and his sincerity and patriotism for this country. How is he going to be viewed internationally, and how skilled and experienced is he to protect this country. We know Hillary Clinton and she has served this country well. In addition, we know the positive way the rest of the world views both Hillary and President Clinton.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:16 am
I guess it’s ok for some blacks and their white friends to mock white people. I guess it’s ok to call them names. I guess it’s ok to not hold them accountable for their prejudice. And who is prejudiced? Just because this nut of a preacher is white doesn’t make it right. What happened to uniting the races, this is indeed divisive and for Barack Obama, the so called ‘uniter’ to sit in this church and hear this rhetoric for 20 + years shows his true colors. This makes me uncomfortable and I’m not even white.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:17 am
Nice. At first I saw the headline saying that a priest was mocking Clinton. I immediately thought of Bill Clinton and wondered, “Why all the fuss? Priests have been getting away with that for years!”
Some priest. Wanted some glory. What about compassion and love for both friend and foe? Guess he must preside over the congregation at Our Lady of Hypocrisy…typical.
I am sure Osama will distance himself from this one as well.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:21 am
The irony is the priest’s crude ranting basically are the same words Hillary Clinton has been saying all along – That she is candidate of White people – That Obama is “unelectable” because he is black – That she doesn’t understand why others don’t realize that she deserves respect and offer of the nomination. The Super Delegates are holding back their obvious winner allegedly to appease Hillary’s supporters who it seems wouldn’t vote for a Black or a Man. What about all those Black people holding their breath patiently waiting – Would they vote to Hillary after all their expectations. Imagine if the Supers somehow turn tables on Obama and nominate Hillary ! If Democrats have any chance of winning they better decide quickly before the crucial rules meeting on Saturday and give some negotiating room to Obama with the Rules Committee.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:23 am
To Angie, I very well understand where you are coming from; news flash to you: it is your racist church that has made it about race. And it is Obama’s association with them that is making him a racist. It is a proven fact that more blacks are racists than whites and a lot us are just now finding out about this. Like I said, the white priest is just a plain nut case.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:24 am
As a priest, he should be calling sinners to repentance but instead acted as though he is on Saturday Night Live. We don’t need this divisive behaviour at this time. Our country is in a recession and our young children are dying daily in an unnecessary war. Iraq has oil yet we are paying through our teeth for a gallon of gasoline. Wake up people, vote your conscience! We need a healing!
May 30th, 2008 at 8:24 am
Rev. Pfleger had no business making the remarks he made. I thought the church was supposed to unite NOT divide. I think he’s a jerk. I have lost so much respect for the church over the years. This is just another example of the quality of people who are found in the churches. Another reason to stay home.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:26 am
Obama chose to spend 20 years listening to Wright, who visited Mumar Kadafi with Louis Farakan. Obama gets endorsements from Farakan, Pfleger, Hugo Chavez, Hamas, Ahmadinajad, Castro … and, some people still say “Poor Obama is the victim”??? The Clinton’s gave service in the White House, which provided our country with peace and prosperity for 8 years. What has Obama and his supporters done for this country??? McCain, was tortured for 5 years defending this country. What has Obama and his supporters done for this country? Pfleger says the whites have a sense of entitlement, but then he says America has to pay the price to people of color, for things that happened 100 years ago … so, who has the expectation of entitlement??? I say … elect either Clinton, or McCain for ‘08 !!!
May 30th, 2008 at 8:31 am

Others seem to think otherwise. See “HILLARY THE MOVIE” below ..

Don’t forget the rest of the story. Only the Chicago Tribune is reporting it in today’s paper online: “Earmarks to St. Sabina
In a Tribune story a year ago, Obama defended special budget earmarks for his district while he was a state legislator, including ones that went to programs associated with Pfleger’s church. Pfleger gave Obama’s campaigns $1,500 between 1995 and 2001, including $200 in April 2001, about three months after Obama announced at least $100,000 in grants to St. Sabina programs. In that story, Pfleger said he made those donations personally, not on behalf of the church or to win grants.” (end of Tribune quote) Obama not only calls Pfleger and, formerly, Rev. Wright, his spriitual advisors, he also funnels money and money funnels back to him. He’s not only morally bankrupt, he is a mover and shaker in Chicago’s financial corruption.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:36 am
Does this guy know he’s white?
May 30th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Are we done going into churches and selectively pulling out drama yet? When will Americans wake up and stop falling for the same nonsense over and over again? They keep playing the public for a bunch of emotional suckers. Who really cares what Pfleger says to his congregation? In reality what does it have to do with Obama? Nothing…
this political season has been full of lies and tricks and its getting out of hand now.. No one candidate has been able to avoid playing these games….. If we arent dwelling on what Wright said then we are worrying about Hagee and now Pfleger… THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT RUNNING FOR ANY OFFICE! STOP BEING DISTRACTED BY WHAT THEY SAY! WAKE UP AND VOTE ON THE ISSUES THAT ARE KILLING THIS COUNTRY.WHAT PASTORS SAY IN CHURCH ISNT A PRIORITY RIGHT NOW!
this is the reason this country is a mess right now, the people are busy fussing and fighting against each other when we are all on the same team and if the country goes to hell we will all be going with it.. WAKE UP!

This is sickening. Sickening funny and he right you know. What a show Hillary put on, she should get an Oscar for that performance. What a joke she is, most of Americans see right through her. How anyone can be fooled by this woman is beyond me. But wait, didn’t the devil deceive Adam and Eve in the garden. Here we go again………….Look reality is, White Americans, Black Americans… heck Americans in general are just tired of the baggage and scandals from the Clintons. We know if she were the nominee it would be scandal after scandal, The Clintons and everyone else in Washington could careless about Americans. We need change, Washington needs enema; Barack may just bring that change.

A lot of us have always known but how has he been able to deceive so many. Please dear God, let him lose is all I can say. If he wins I am bound to think he must be the great deceiver.

I was on the fence with my vote….I tried to tell myself “Obama can’t control what other people say….that doesn’t mean it’s how he feels…” But I can’t ignore the fact that just about every other day either his “religious advisors,” his wife, or himself (California speech about clinging to guns) there are comments that are just fundamentally against everything I and many other people stand for. There is a quote “Tell me who you walk with and I will tell you who you are.” I will not be voting for Obama, and I will be forwarding this clip to everyone I know!
May 30th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Wanda Reed: I guess you are ignorant to say it is My racist church. You know nothing about MY church. See that is where hatred takes over common sense. Have you taken a poll of all of the world, to find out that blacks are more racist than whites? How do you know this? There are more good people in this world than bad. Whether black, white, or other. Those are not the words of Obama. They came out of the mouth of the Rev. Obama still loved his white grandmother, even though she said things that were of a prejudice nature toward blacks. You really need to free yourself from such a hateful way of thinking.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:48 am
This whole pastor thing is getting absurd- i sure wouldn’t want to be held responsible for everything that visiting, or attending priests have said in my church. I found Father Pfleger to be pretty unusual for a priest- maybe he wants a SNL skit of his own and I don’t think that his remarks are condoned by the Catholic church- and certainly not by Obama. Can we remember by the way that Obama is not Catholic but another Christian faith? It is bad enough that we try to paint Obama with the comments of the pastor of a church that he did attend but beyond absurd that we make him responsible for those of a visiting Catholic priest. All of these issues prevent us from concentrating on what is important - read Mcclellan’s comments and decide if Bush would have got away with what he did if we had all been paying attention instead of reacting to every dumb distraction.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Norah & Rasheed make excellent points. This was thick-headed for Pfleger to go on this rant when he knows (or should know) that scrutiny will certainly follow. This is detrimental for everything other than some cheers in church. However - most people have some contact w/ someone who has said something racist. We will never have a candidate for President who does not have some kind of connection to someone who said something deplorable. Never. It happens - try to move past it and vote on the issues. These rants are only self-defeating and devisive to the beholder. Let it pass.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Just another spiritual advisor to Obama and also one that Obama has funneled money to. God help us if this racist makes it to the White House!
May 30th, 2008 at 9:13 am
McCain’s “spiritual adviser” Rod Parsley hates Muslims. McCain himself doesn’t care much about Islam and he doesn’t even know the difference between Sunnis and Shias. If elected McCain has to deal with Saudis and Pakistanis. Associations with Parsley kind of priests only make the foreign policy issues difficult. The candidates should keep their faith to themselves. Otherwise they get into controversies such as these.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:16 am
I think Hillary Clinton is a waist and Barack is a waist too. Our country is divided not by political lines but racial like every single other country in the world. We are arrogant to think we are not divided in this way. I find it comical when older whites try to make speaches to butter up the racial minority. And when you watch the crowd of black laughing at the jokes it show how simple and narrow minded blacks can be. It has nothing to do with their belief that Barack is a better leader, this race is all about white against black when it comes down to it. Or like I like to describe it The Sisterhood and Brotherhood of the traveling Honky/Nigger show!!
May 30th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Another 20 year aquaintance of Obama’s! What’s even worse it the congreation all giving a standing ovation and clapping!! These are Obama’s fellow parishioners of 20 years!! The super delegates had better wake up and not support this person we know little about. It does seem the American people are beginning to see his true colors and are voting in majority for Hillary.
THIS IS REVERSE RACISM AT ITS WORST!!! The Catholic Church needs to remove this priest permanently!!!!
May 30th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Hey Kyle — the word is WASTE. BTW it would be very interesting if McCain were to select General Colin Powell for his VP spot.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Ares: I absolutely agree with you. Religion really has no place in politics. The government should be for every American regardless of race, religion, or even sexual orientation. People just look for any reason to continue to hate someone. Even if it is something someone else has said.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:27 am
BTW, why is this article not FRONT page news on CNN? Why is it not front page of many other news sites? If Hillary’s church made such comments about race it would be plastered across the world!!! The media has manipulated this entire primary election process!
May 30th, 2008 at 9:37 am
Well the priest is a white boy who has a “wanna be black” mentality and tries to sound black when he spews his racial slurs. These churches who preach race, hate, and political views should lose their tax-exempt status. No citizen’s tax monies should help keep these churches viable.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Hi,
I have only one question how is Rev. Wright and Rev. Pfleger encouraging the lost to follow Christ? Both of these men of God (I use the term loosely too–have they forgotten what they were called to represent?)have caused more hurt and trouble in an already hurting world. I am a Christian and my pastors, have NEVER behaved in such hurtful and UnGodly ways regarding politics, my pastors are more interested in reaching the Lost, not TV ratings and publicity stunts. I am a supporter of Barack but, I will support Hillary too if she should get the nomination. I want change in this world and we have bigger problems then this stuff, look at the mess we are in right now do we really need another Republican in the White House. America where are our priorities? To the Reverends I say WWJD (What Would Jesus Do… you do remember Jesus, right?)
May 30th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Andrew: OK so if it ever came out that McCain spent 20 years in a white rascist church, had some money-favor exchanges, but then once it became public he became very disappointed and distanced himself from it, would you still “let it pass”?
May 30th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Nancy: “Why is it not front page of many other news sites?”
Because there are more important news stories such as crashing Cranes. Who cares about some crazy priests. Interesting though — Hillary’s win in PA was overshadowed by Eliot Spitzer’s sexcapade — China earthquake overtakes news about Hillary’s win in Ky — and so on.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:44 am
The truly upsetting nature of this most recent Obama church incident is the response by the church members in the background. These people are ranting and raving in response to this man’s despicable words. Since when is it okay to utter vulgarities and curse words from the pulpit? Since when is it okay to attack or condone politicians from the pulpit? Since when is it okay to foster division amongst different groups of people living in America? In a church I would suppose, love and unity should reign supreme. Not that of hate, division, and racial bigotry.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:51 am
My fellow Americans …
It’s time to start voting the Obama super delegates out of office.

What is a white Uncle Tom called?
May 30th, 2008 at 9:54 am
My mother always said, “You are who you hang out with”. Those deplorable church members are the same members Obama has spent his last 20 yrs with. My mother also taught me that, even if you don’t behave and do the things your group does, you will be labeled as such and will be guilty by association. Just goes to show how terrible Obama’s judgement is…not anyone I want in the White House choosing our top leaders and decision makers.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Duce: Yes I would. - if I thought McCain would be the better of the two candidates, I would indeed “let it pass.” I wouldn’t be happy about it, but I would be voting for who I thought was a better candidate. If McCain went to a church that had a few racist comments in the past, I wouldn’t automatically assume he wouldn’t be a good candidate. Every candidate is going to have issues in their past and it is always a challenge to raise money. If you hold every candidate responsible for everyone who has raised money for them, you won’t ever come out clean.

Hillary’s ENTITLEMENT Mentality
The Catholic priest’s words may seem crude – but his idea of Hillary’s feelings of ENTITLEMENT is not. Others have spoken of the ENTITLEMENT issue more eloquently.

I agree with everything the Priest said, he was not only truthful, but also very funny. Clinton does believe she is entitled to the Presidency. She does cry on cue.Nice to see that even a Priest knows how phony the Clintons are. Anyway it has nothing to do with Obama. They can say whatever they want in any church, its seperate from Government.

Duce: McSame is an Old white man, do you really believe in all his years he hasn’t been around racist? Let’s be honest, there is no telling what even he was told growing up, I can imagine what he heard and participated in.How many bathrooms, hotels, restuarants, buses, schools, etc he used or attended that Blacks could not. You think he didn’t visit those places out of protest? What about his friends? Old man like that you really think he doesn’t have racist friends? I know the answer, so does any honest person.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Thank you Andrew!
It is really disheartening to read some of the blogs though. And Duce-please don’t hold up McCain’s personal history as a model for us. There are a lot of issues there.
Meanwhile let’s get back to the important stuff. I was a Hillary supporter- now I am supporting the obvious nominee of the Democratic party,Barrack Obama, very happily since I think that he will bring back the America that we all want. I am old enough to have been inspired by JFK and RFK and I think of Obama in the same light. We need to push for a national health care program; education for our kids, help for our seniors and relief for the middle class. Talking about drama from pastors, McCain or Obama, isn’t going to do that- getting a Democrat in the White House might-or at least is our only chance. Hillary is not electable and it would be worse if the Republicans got a shot at her. We will win with Obama.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Ok, everybody just calm down. What exactly did this preacher say that was racist? Nothening. He mocked Sen. Clinton just like SNL (Saturday Night Live) has. As a man of God he should not have behaved like a two year old. But what he said wasn’t worse than Sen. Clinton comparing her staying the race to JFK’s untimely death.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:34 am
What the Hell is WRONG at that Church?!!!! They should loose their Tax Free Status and FORCED to register as a political entity. They spew horse manure on a weekly basis. What ever happened to teaching about the Bible and Jesus? Racist indeed!
May 30th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Something that I came across by accident and has not been reported in the MSM or investigated.
Wright has never retired from the Trinity United Church of Christ as was reported. It’s just a sham to justify Obama still going there.
Just check out the website at trinityunitedchurchofchrist.com
Click on Pastor and Pastor Jeremiah Wright shows up in all his splendor and glory as Senior Pastor. Then go to Pastoral Staff and you will find Wright as the Senior Pastor and as to Moss, the supposed new pastor. “Rev. Otis Moss, III currently serves as Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ under the leadership of Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.” Under the leadership sounds like under the supervision to me.
Just my opinion, but it looks like Wright calls the shots and that’s why something like this is tolerated.
Looks like it’s a sham til the heat wears off or until Obama wins. See for yourself who you think is in control. All the language is in the present tense, “Since 1972, under Dr. Wright’s leadership, the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ grew from 87 members; and currently exceeds 6,000!”
Don’t take my word for it. Judge for yourself. See who you think is in control and dictates policy. Not one word about his supposed “retirement”.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Good work Nick! (Yawn).
Look - its amusing to continue analyzing Pfleger and Wright and what was said and what it means but that is talk-show entertainment. These priests are not the candidates. If you think some connection to a priest is more important than funding the GI Bill or staying in Iraq or continuing tax laxity for the wealthy, vote for that priest-connection held so dear. Otherwise - vote for what is clearly more important.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:57 am
let me correct myself WASTE…Yes they are not the mid section of the human body. Thanks.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Coming from a priest, it is no surprise that he would talk so dismissively of Hillary Clinton. I have yet to meet a woman priest or pope. I know that they have priests of all races…although popes have been all been european, at least to my knowledge. When Father Michael Pfleger speaks of Hillary’s “white woman sense of entitlement” he also needs to speak to the sense of entitlement that the Catholic Church has…to the billions of dollars they collect each yearfrom their, to all the land they stole from native peoples in North Anmerica and South America…to all the women they tell not to practice birth control so they can be treated like brood mares and reproduce, to all the children thereafter that are born into poverty and ignored by people like the Father. I say, clean up your own backyard before you become intoxicated with all the media attention….and the pulpit.
Are these “the men” that Obama wants on his advisory council?
But, I do not lose hope! Hillary is simply going forward like the women who were taunted and ridiculed when we asked, no demanded, the vote not too long ago. We are witnessing history, predictible, but still history.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Andrew, you are wrong!
It’s about decision making and leadership…for and of the most powerful country in the world. I see Wright and Pfleger and the Trinity United Church of Christ and Obama’s association with all the above as Obama having despicable judgement, and especially with a 20 year affiliation with all. It is impossible that Obama was unaware of the opinions and gendas after all these years and his state of denial is just a big LIE!!!! On the other side of the coin is??? Obama must share in many of the same views, otherwise he would have changed churches many years ago.
IT IS NEWS!!!
May 30th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Another one of Obama’s staff. Obama is nothing more than a racist Chicago thug. People just keep making excuses for him and failed to see whats right in front of their face. I can’t believe the american people are so stupid they can’t see through this guy.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:25 am
THESE PEOPLE ARE GROSS! They all enjoyed what that ass said! They want us to give things up? Tell them to work for a change and stop eating watermelon! This makes me angry! I’m now racist to all who vote obama and to the members of that church. All whites who vote for Obama should be a slave to black people. Damn ignorant fools!
May 30th, 2008 at 11:31 am
I am white and not only am I not offended by this, I can laugh along with it: I simply don’t get what the fuss is about. The foundation of humor is exaggeration. And even outside of humor ( this goes to the Rev. Wright stuff too ) in public speaking there are such things as rhetorical constructs and dramatic phrasing. You people must see through the manipulation going on here: ask yourself what the timing of these ‘discovered clips’ is and who they benefit.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:32 am
No, Andrew is absolutely correct…
It is about leadership. Not the kind we have had here for the past 8 years. I am tired of people trying to hold Obama responsible for things that he hasnt said, much less condoned.
it is a poor argument that says its Obama’s fault these preachers are saying these things in church to their congregations… its an excuse to villify Obama and it is a pretty lame one at that.. Preachers have been saying controversial things since time began… If you looped Jesus turning over tables in the temple, you could make people believe he was a crazy man too…
My main point is that it is becoming obvious that MSM and these media outlets are promoting nonsense instead the staying on the issues that effect us…. Nobody knew or cared who these guys were before and some of the speeches and comments drudged up are from 5 - 10 years ago….
Come on people! We gotta smarten up and vote on the issues.. The war, the economy, the future…. Not get caught in what pastors are saying at various churches… its only being shown to you in order to elicit an emotional response.. stop falling for it..
May 30th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Nancy - it’s not an issue of right or wrong. It’s how much do you want to let this matter. If this is important to you and think it illustrates poor judgment on behalf of Obama - so be it. Vote accordingly. I think judgment for a President is better shown through voting records and political agendas. Not to say that you don’t think these things aren’t important - but if you believe Obama’s choice of church supercedes all other judgment - that’s your decision to make. It’s not right or wrong. We will just disagree. Really - this is what is at the heart of this debate.

..and to elaborate on what Rasheed says - if you vote for McCain simply b/c of the preachers at Obama’s church even if you agree more with Obama’s policies - where will that leave you? With a supporter of over 90% of Bush’s policies and votes. That is what distractors of Obama want with this. Get you off the issues of incompetent govt and vote with reflexive emotion.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Rasheed, I can not agree with you more! These pastor’s are not running for President. No one cares what they are saying. We need to focus on the real issues. Like why are most people making minimum wage yet the price of gas is over half their hourly wage.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:59 am
This is Obama’s congregation.
Regardless of whether he was there or not, he is one of the flock and this is what they do.
Hillary was insulted from the pulpit (once again) and in the most despicable fashion by the poorest excuse for a Catholic priest and not one media outlet has come to her aid.
Chivalry is dead and thanks to this church, racism & sexism have won..
May 30th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
You know I think the media is right, this campaign has been completely racist. It’s been misogynist too but unfortunately, we just brush that under the carpet because women just don’t matter, RIGHT? But yes, I do agree it has been racist. The funny thing though is racism has more then one definition and unfortunately, racism comes in many colors. I believe this campaign has been racist against WHITES! Two pastors now, come on. I hate McCain but there is no way in hell I’m putting a racist pig in office and I am not referring to Hillary!

Well, here we go again ladies and gentlemen. We see once again that Americans’ skins are paper thin and that they cannot take any criticism without becoming extremely offended. Clinton deserved to be criticized for her false tears. Most of us rolled our eyes at this, because we knew it was nothing a manipulation. Funny, I saw a Democratic politico on CNN just the night before saying the exact same thing about Clinton’s fake tear show. But he was in no way associated woth Barack Obama, so it was considered to be just what it was: commentary. Yet, let it be known that a minister, who knows and supports Obama, said the same thing and suddenly, the Desperate Clintonites are outraged and out for Obama’s (not the priest’s) blood. And they have no idea of how utterly foolish they make themselves look. It seems to me that Obama is a highly intelligent man and his supporters seem enqually intelligent. They demand substance and get it. The Clinton supporters only want her to win, though they can never articulate exactly what quailities she has that makes her the better candidate. Even now, when the election is lost, Clinton’s supporters refused to move on to unit the party.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
What is wrong with all you Obama supporters????? I assimilate Obama’s affiliation with Trinity Church of Christ, its leaders and doctrine as if Hillary had affiliation to a church with a large congregation of todays nonviolent KKK members. Its the same difference…what would happen to Hillary is exactly what should be happening to Obama!!!! It is reverse RACISM!!!!!
May 30th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Why would this country want any Chicago politician at all sitting in the White House! I am a Chicagoan all my life (53 years) and, believe me, if you think the politics are bad in Washington - they are unbelievably corrupt, dirty and downright “scum of the earth” here in Chicago. We make Washington politics look like pre-school! Obama is nothing but a part of the political machine. With his so called belief of “change” - give me a break. Obama, you are nothing but a dirty, low-life Chicago politican. I am praying to God you DO NOT WIN!
May 30th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
For me it is not just the pulpit rants that are a problem but the enthusiastic congregation of which Obama is still a part of.
He can say all day long how wrong the priest was… but where is the condemnation of his fellow brothers and sisters of the church and their reaction to the comments. These are not people SHOCKED to hear these comments. These are people used to it and enjoying it. Which proves that Obama is also used to it and enjoys it.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
We Obama supporters are Americans, who believe in the seperation of Church and State. We do not care what his former minister’s points of view are. We only care about Obama’s policial views and the character of the man. He has shown us that his is a man of high moral and ethical standards. He has not lied to us. Not once. His religious views are his own and none of our business. After all, we’re Democrats and Independants, not Republicans. We extend the same rationale to Sen Clinton and we apprciate that she has not attempted to make religion an issue in this campaign. She has, however, been implicit in the attempt to ascribe the the ideas of friends and associates of Sen. Obama. She practices the politics of division, distraction and polarization. This criticism was leveled at her long before she announced her candidacy. She herself has proved it to be 100% accurate. Simply put, Clinton would make a very bad president. She represents the past. Our first woman president should represent the future.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
First of all, what the priest said is exactly why I turned from someone positively disposed to Hillary Clinton to a Obama supporter. Her crocodile tears put a finishing touch on the realization that she and her husband will do anything to win; something she has proven over and over again. She cares neither for the people nor the Democratic party. Someone should have told her at the beginning of all this that her name is not Windsor and that she has no indesputable right of succession.
Also, reading a lot of the comments entered here, I despair of the amount of ignorance and bigotry exhibited. Is this as far as the American people have progressed in these 232 years? For the sake of this country, I hope not. I hope these few are an overly concentrated exhibition of what this country is NOT about.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
I thought priests were supposed to act like the right hand of God, not the backside of a mule. It figures. America is looking more and more like a laughingstock everyday.

The Main (& DANGEROUS!) Issue is: Religion & Politics …
How myopic is this American Society that we giggle, huff & disdain Ayatollahs in Iran & The Middle East, welcome Right Wing Jerry Falwells, Left Wing Rev Wright, & the Institutioal Apartheid of Israel?
ANY nation which relies on “High Priests” to dotheir thinking for them is in trouble.
The Sectarian-Minded Founding Fathers of THIS Republic knew this quagmire of reasoning would eventually threaten The Republic & took the essential step of FORBIDDING any official STate Religion, which has been saving us from nut-case theolgians ever since. I caution all of you to remember; ANY presence of ANY religion in the affairs of government is the 1st step toward utter lunacy & religious genocide.
Wake-The-Hell UP! Surely you cannot be so stupid that you’ll now ignore The History Of This Planet; more wars throughout HISTORY have been fought over RELIGION than any other causal factor!
In short; keep babbling preachers in church and OUT of Government. Period. Hello?

What saddens me is how Clinton supporters are going to vote for McCain if she is not the nominee. What a small minded view that is! I am an African American woman and based on alot of conversations I had had with other blacks, if they give Clinton the nominee, she WON’T win in November because many blacks will stay home. Regardless of what anyone thinks, no democrat can win the general election without the black vote. I have attend church regularly since I can remember and pastors comment alot about politics. It doesn’t mean they speak for me. All of the major black issues in this country were addressed in churches since the sixties because we couldn’t organize anywhere else. To link a pastor’s comments to a specific person means that you do not understand the black church experience. Our churches are bigger than the person standing in front on Sundays. We don’t go around church hopping because someone said something we don’t agree with. I reallly wish those leaving un-informed comments spend a couple of Sundays going to a black church. You will truly change your perspective. If you are not willing to do that then you have no right to comment. Just my opinion.
May 30th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I continue to be amazed by the characters that Obama has surrounded himself with. It is becoming more and more obvious that he is a racist (against whites) since his Church of twenty years promotes anti-white beliefs. The people that speak at the Church he attends curses white people and the congregation cheers the cursing. I have never attended a Church where garbage like this is allowed to go on. How can people allow their children to listen to junk like this. I am a lifelong Democrat and I’m disgusted and saddened that my party is supporting actions like this. I’m aware that the so-called priest has apoligized but he did so only because he was forced to and in no way was sincere in his apology. He made his anti-white statement in his sermon and he meant what he said.

RaNae I pose this question to you.
If Hillary had an affiliation to a church with a large congregation of todays nonviolent KKK members who preached African American HATE, should she be in consideration for the highest office of this country? Would she be considered as a “UNITER AND NOT A DIVIDER”????
May 30th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Obama’s associates and supporters are not ready for an African American president and obviously even less ready for a woman president. This campaign has been horrible. It has exposed racism and sexism at its worst in America. I am sorry, but I can no longer make excuses for Obama, his associates, or his supporters.
I still hope there is a way Clinton can get the nomination. Obama is going to be a disaster. Early on Obama spoke of how he was going to bring the country together.
If this is an example of his ability, we are all in big trouble!
May 30th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
So I go to CNN and see this post.. read the blogs and see comments of others about this pastor. Then I watch the video, I was expecting something more. The fact is he said nothing racially offensive. Lets place some facts into context and start with ourselves and then go to our candidates
1. Can you say you do not have one relative that does not use race to describe a person
2. Have you ever been mocked by a friend or relative.. does that mean they hate you?
3. Do you think this campaign has caused others to look at each other and address the racial issues in this country?
4. Does each of these candidates have people affiliated with religious organizations that have said actually offensive comments?
5. Do you correct your friends when you think they have said something offensive?
6. Do you think Hillary felt she was entitled to this nomination and was a sure-fire winner from the beginning?
Personally, I think the clip was funny and reminded me of a SNL clip. However, I can see why people would go over the deep end in implying this was racist because they are sensitive about their candidate Hillary. Also, racism lives in the country and is the basis for some people supporting hillary. This fact is shown in the idea that some of Clintons supporters will vote for McCain if/when Obama is nominated even though Obama and Hillary have almost identical stances on real policies that will effect our everyday lives.
May 30th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
I felt I was watching an episode of Def Comedy Jam watching this ridiculous man that calls himself a priest as the congregation jumped around and applauded these comments, the only apology this man needs to make in my personal opinion is to The Lord God Almighty himself because I have to believe that he is very dissapointed in this man’s choice of words at such a crucial time in this country’s history. As far as voters are concerned, everything will be ok because the messiah that we have all come to know through the media as Barack Obama has made his public statement about the comments saying that he is highly dissapointed. How many times does this man have to come to the defense of himself and the people that are associated with him before this country wakes up and realizes the problem may just be Obama himself.
May 30th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
I just love the people who can actually defend this priest. I am white and am
certainly not a racist, But please tell me when you want me to bend over.
Enough is enough! Stop brow beating my white ass!! African Americans in my lifetime have been given many more opportunities because they are a minority
then others who are in the same economic situation. Do you call that fair! I just love discussions on race. Let’s see one side has to remain politically correct while the other can spew all the hatred they want. Let’s see we have everything from The Black Congressional Caucus to the Black American Musical Awards. Substitute the word white in there and see what happens. Give over the black experience! I have!
May 30th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
The Catholic priest comments on Hilary was just HYPERBOLE. People should get over this hypersensitivity. If this was on Jay Leno, it would be replayed as comedy - biting and sharp but pure comedy not a racist statement. I am a 63 yr old white male who now supports Obama. I think reactions to this is really a mirror on the people who are reacting rather than on Obama or the priest.
May 30th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
To All Obama supporters who make light of his affiliations, I ask you this question?
If Hillary had an affiliation to a church with a large congregation of todays nonviolent KKK members who preached African American HATE, should she be in consideration for the highest office of this country? Would she be considered as a “UNITER AND NOT A DIVIDER”????
I doubt any of you will answer the above because you are living in the FANTASY of CHANGE and refuse to see REALITY! You will vote for someone who does not have a proven track record just as the American people did in 2000 and 2004. You are all equally as ignorant as the Bush cronies…he promised plenty of change for the evangelicals and what did he follow through with? Nothing….it is now 8 years later and our middle class has nearly disappeared.
I refuse to see Obama in the White House and I feel so strongly that I will not vote for him in the general election.
I have been a conservative democrate all my life and I’m ready to change to a liberal republican.
May 30th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Probably many people including the politicians who watched the anti-Hillary priest SECRETLY AGREE with him with a smirk ! They themselves cannot say so because it is politically unacceptable.
May 30th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
The IRS should begin taxing Rev. Pfleger’s catholic church since he doesn’t seem to believe in subscribing to our constitutional separation of church and state. Perhaps this is something our next president should take up as their cause. For every action, there is a consequence. Rev. Pfleger’s action was intended, not inconsequential. If the catholic church agrees to keep him at the helm of his parrish, it should bear the economic consequence of taxation for its flagrant disregard for our constitution.

Whatever the case may be, there is no crying in politics. Hillary showed weakness when she cried and there is no taking that back. The way Obama has been attacked over the past months, shouldn’t he be the one who is crying? Has he? No. I do not want a president who cries at the drop of a hat. We have villans out there who want us dead to deal with and they would just laugh at her and attack us if she was the commander-in-chief. Go home and take care of Bill for a change and wait for Chelshea to get married and give you some grandbabies.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
What if the priest’s name had been Bill Maher or Jay Leno? He basically took Hillary’s words and mocked her. Now I expect that from comedians but not ministers. But why are people so shocked and calling his performance bigotry? Pundits have said the problem with the Clinton campaign is that she felt entitled to the presidency; many suspect she stayed with Bill no matter what for political reasons; media folks have said that she felt that Obama should have waited his turn - this is her time; Hillary has said hard-working whites (as opposed to the lazy ones)will vote for her because she is white (in other words she is not black). So what did this priest say that was so different from what has been said? Now his comments belong in a comedy club where satire is accepted - where we’re encouraged to laugh at ourselves. If people feel outrage - it may be because it has touched a nerve. What he said was true…but it was in poor taste. It is not always politically correct to state the truth. Or maybe it’s not what you say but how you say it. When I saw his words written out I thought: well that’s what the media and people have been saying. When I saw his performance I thought: there is no need for this. But I’m not going to make a federal case out of it.

For all the white people, it was many of your ancestors that condoned slavery, your grandparents were racist. I guess through that association, that makes all of you just as guilty and culpable as they are for their hatred.
Hey you grew up around racist views, that must make all of you bad Americans.
Right?
You all need to start using your brains. I was in the military with a bunch of people who were outright racists, they used the N word. I called them friends at the time, though I did not agree with their views. Now I would not associate with them, but because they thought that way doesn’t mean I do.
Otherwise you all are just as guilty with your slave loving ancestors.

Oh and all the comments about Obama’s associates? If you are a doctor, you will be around sick people, if you are a minister, you will be around all kinds including the sinners. I believe Jesus and many other spiritual healers/leaders spent time with so called sinners - they were the ones who needed help. If Senator Obama is to be president of your country, and impact the rest of the world, he had better be able to deal with all kinds of people (without turning up his nose). He had better be able to treat the good the bad and the ugly as humans - even if he doesn’t agree with their behavior or actions. This campaign started off with so much hope and now there is so much fear, suspicion, sexism, racism, anger, desperation - you name it - creeping up to the surface. If America is to go forward, someone with integrity and the ability to rise about crap is desperately needed. You may not agree or like Obama - but he’s the best you have.

MCCAIN 2008 - HILLARY 2010!
I’m saddened by the reality that the Obama supporters have been duped into believing that change will happen for the better if this man holds the keys to the White House. It’s easy to say out with “old politics” but the reality is - Mr. Obama is just like the rest - there really is no other way to get to the top without stepping on others along the way and campaigns are slogans to sell a product/candidate. The blogs I read from the Obamaites, represent hatred and prejudice. This person is you want to lead our country is a scary man and keeps scary company. I have read and heard your statements that the words are not his words coming from the “spiritual leaders” he has chosen, but they are - we are held accountable for our friends for they are images of ourselves. Obamaites have slammed Ms. Ferrara for her comments, but the reality is - blacks were given the right to vote before women and times have not changed…Hillary is trying to make this change. Mr. Obama is trying to follow the same old pattern…white man, black man….somewhere down the road women will develop a voice, unfortunately it will not be heard until the voice inside their head saying - I am not good enough goes away. You may not like Hillary, but is it because of her politics or because you hear the voices of bittered bigoted past saying - Women have no place outside the home? I guess if men hadn’t gone to war way back when we’d still be there.
Mr. Obama’s campaign (which represents him) put the racial word in your ear - The Clinton’s time represented prosperity for America - doesn’t sound like such a bad thing to go back to. They also represented the African Americans and how quickly you turn on those looking out for you and turn into “white racists.” It is a sad time when the change the Clinton’s brought for the African Americans has been lost because what our country now faces is “white racism” and the sexism…well that was addressed. I will vote McCain and wait four years until Hillary runs again…or do we write her it?? All of the Hillary supporters need to make this clear - what do we want to do?
Hillary supporters unite - spread the word - decision making time - we have the power to choose our next President…our campaign for 2008 - Choose McCain 2008 - Hillary 2012!!! MAKE THE SIGNS - sorry Pelosi, you’re too late - Oprah sewed the seeds, now may she weep.
May 31st, 2008 at 8:22 am
Ditto to js. Well said. From the prospective of an outsider looking in (Canadian) I have watched CNN as an interested party of who was to likely become the President of our neighbour and friend USA. In the beginning I truly liked Obama, however as time went on it was obvious his association with a Church and others who have done nothing but damage his campaign and moral reputation, and his decisions to time and time again, stay with that church…has changed my thinking. US is in fact in the process of trying to heal a country at war, in economic crisis, and yes with racial divide. Obamas lack of disgust for the rantings of both sermons has made me believe he too must have moral issues. He should have dissolved his membership to this church before he jumped into the race for president. After being a member for 20 years he knew full well what was being preached and that to me is going to cause political suicide for the Democratic party if the super delegates who support him dont change their thinking after this final blow. They best also speak to the will of US citizens if they hope to keep the party together. Talk about a political mess that the press has showed sexist and racial divisiveness! Blame the press and Obama for much of this mess.
May 31st, 2008 at 9:52 am
It is absurd to think that Obama attended this Church without complicity in the racist and sexist harangues that routinely go on there with the hearty approval of the congregation. He eithier enthusiastically supports them or is a coward about showing his disapproval until it doesn’t service his interests. Either way, he is not what he spins himself to be.
May 31st, 2008 at 2:45 pm
remember this one ?
‘“Now, I could stand up here and say, ‘Let’s just get everybody together. Let’s get unified,’” Clinton said to laughter of the crowd.
“The skies will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect,” she said dryly as the crowd erupted.
“Maybe I’ve just lived a little long, but I have no illusions about how hard this is going to be,”
SHE was mocking Obama’s message: someone else is mocking her not Obama so why should he take the heat. MRS Clinton has never learned that if you throw you need to learn to catch. That priest was right on message and clearly showed her frustration/anger/impotence over this upstart raining on her parade. And this whining loser is always talking about how unfairly SHE is treated.
May 31st, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Hello Angie and others making very bad points:
EXACTLY. THE FATHER WHO SPOKE AT THE CHURCH IS WHITE AND CATHOLIC.
HELLO!!! THIS IS NOT ABOUT RACE! AGAIN THIS IS NOT ABOUT RACE! IT NEVER WAS!!!! THIS IS ABOUT A CHURCH THAT SUPPORTS MORALLY IRREHENSIBLE IDEALS.
Whatever color you are it is never okay to preach anti-American, anti-semitic or racial (white or black) sermons from the pulpit. The fact that a white priest is now preaching along these same terrible lines proves the point I made months ago. THIS IS NOT ABOUT RACE. THIS IS ABOUT A COMMUNITY THAT OBTAINS ENJOYMENT FROM INSULTING OTHERS OUTSIDE THEIR OWN COMMUNITY. This group is a disgrace. THE FACT THAT A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE belongs to and enjoys such sermons is DISGUSTING. No matter what candidate attended it would be the same.
STOP CRYING WOLF THIS IS NOT ABOUT RACE.
What is worse, is the Obama supporters have so much HATRED when you read their blogs. They too, would probably be members of this church if they could. What is it about this guy Obama that make people so angry and speak with such evil tongues?
At one point, I was interested in Obama too. But as an educated individual, I delved below the surface to see what was really there (by the way I am a latte drinking highly educated doctor who does not cling to guns or religion). I assure you, if you stop and think, there is nothing much to Obama’s campaingn.
I wish that those supporting Obama’s campaign, would realize, they are building a campaign on anger.
June 1st, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Please, all you people who think Obama supporters are hatred filled, look at what you are all saying. You can veil racism in all sorts of forms. The facts are true, just like women’s suffrage and the glass ceiling, race is still an issue.
When the segregation struggle occurred, there were both blacks and whites on the same side. You all can’t handle that what a white priest says is the truth. Fact is that white people in the US are privileged. Look at who the CEO’s and executives are in most companies. Mostly white. Race is and always will be issue, and just because you don’t like to admit that you are racist, and look to justify in all other manners, shows that this country still has a long way to go.
Here’s a question, how many of you still lock your car doors when you see a black person walking down the sidewalk?
Why don’t you look at Bill Clinton’s support of Farrakhan, or how Clinton supporters supported him, why don’t you look at how Rev. Wright was invited to a Clinton prayer breakfast. Well since Bill is married to Hillary, obviously Hillary must share his views all this time.
Obama has a lot of supporters, white, black, brown, all colors, poor, rich and many more. And the young people in America support him in far greater numbers. What do you think when your children favor Obama? It means you all have consistently made poor choices in your choice of leaders in this country, and left the younger generation a huge mess to inherit, where they are sick of your decisions.
People like js, Heather, Nancy, Gayle, they are all hate filled. You can read it in their comments.
The rest of us want a new America, and a removal of privileged classes.
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 am
I’ve been a Catholic all of my 60 plus years and I have never seen a sermon directed to a single person like Pfleger delivered at Obama’s church. Sermons are always based on the weekly gospel from the bible. From what I have read about Pfleger, the Catholic church has been having problems with him. This country is based on separation of church and state, so he has no business campaigning for Obama and belittling Clinton. Maybe the church should excommunicate him to get rid of him for good. With all the bad publicity about sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, this is another one that the church does not need.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:12 am
Hillary’s own “Race Card” had backfired
Pfleger basically paraphrased what Hillary Clinton has been claiming all along — That she is favorite of White Americans — That she is entitled for the nomination because she is more qualified (read White). Bill Clinton said that Obama won in S Carolina because he is Black. And Hillary’s friend and fund raiser Jiraldene Ferraro had tied Obama’s popularity to his Blackness. Hillary was even sticking a “Black Pin” on Barak in the cartoon …
