Gore Passes Torch to Obama
“After the last eight years, even our dogs and cats have learned that elections matter.” - Al Gore
Urging Americans to reject the Bush legacy of incompetence, negligence and failure, former Vice President Al Gore - who has become the de facto Democratic standard-bearer in the past seven years - endorsed Barack Obama Monday.
Gore said George W. Bush and his cronies have “dishonored and disrespected” the Constitution and led our country through “eight years of the most serious foreign policy mistakes in the entire history of our nation.”
[NOTE: Did anyone else watching this get the feeling that this guy would make an excellent Vice President? Just throwing it out there]
At a campaign rally in Detroit, Michigan, Al Gore called for Americans to move past partisanship and select, in Barack Obama, a great leader who can solve the global climate crisis and create a brighter future for the U.S. and the planet.
He didn’t stop at foreign policy and climate change, either.
Al Gore cited myriad concerns about the environment, lead-painted toys and food safety - even pet foods - as other reasons to vote Democrat.
Joining Obama in the midst of the Democratic nominee’s two-week tour of the U.S. to talk about ways to revitalize the economy, Monday marked Gore’s debut in this historic, often contentious 2008 election.
Gore praised Barack Obama as someone who could mobilize people, young and old, who had never before taken part in the political process.
Follow the jump for some terrific Al Gore quotes from the rally …
- “I feel that same spirit in this auditorium tonight, building all over this country this year.”
- “Take it from me, elections matter. If you think the next appointments to our Supreme Court are important, you know that elections matter. If you live in the city of New Orleans, you know that elections matter. If you or a member of your family are serving in the active military, the National Guard or Reserves, you know that elections matter.”
- “Americans simply cannot afford to continue the policies of the last eight years for another four.
- “If you are a wounded veteran, you know that elections matter. If you’ve lost your job; if you’re struggling with a mortgage, you know that elections matter.”
- “After eight years of lost jobs and lower wages, we need change. After eight years of incompetence, negligence and failure, we need change.”
- “And yet another said the United States cannot afford to risk the future of the free world with inexperience and immaturity in the White House. Who were they talking about? Every single one of those quotes came from the campaign of 1960, when the the Republicans attacked John Fitzgerald Kennedy for allegedly lacking the age and experience necessary to be president.”

I share a professional blog space with Al Gore at
http://www.AlAndCorbett.com
He is a great man and I am honored to be associated with him. Keyboard Culture New Earth Community is not about partisanship but the fight to stop global warming contains an inexorable linkage to civics and vox populi.
John McCain has worked for environmental issues for much of his career in the United States Congress but I have no doubt that Barack Obama would do much more on the climate crisis as president of the United States than John McCain would. For this reason, I am delighted that Mr. Gore has endorsed Barack Obama.

I posted his speech as part of a post on Obama getting it! I thought it was very good and would go a long way in uniting the party. I was disappointed to see Hillary fans still saying they are going to vote for McCain. That peeves me. We are done if McCain gets in. I keep wondering if her supporters saying that is a ploy to make Obama choose her as Veep!

Al Gore is a voice for true change, and alteration of the status quo.
Barack Obama has good ideas, but limited experience. I proudly voted for Al Gore as in 2000 he was the real, elected President of the United States of America.
Everything else has been a nightmare orchestrated by the arms industry/AIPAC cabal. http://www.nogw.com/warforisrael.html
Al Gore would take this nation, out of the fringes of infancy and re-institute a sense of purpose and statesmanship again. Being a friend of Ron Paul he would pledge support for congressman who hold a non-interventionalist stance, and push real policy initiatives to stop foreign oil over-dependancy.
In so doing, he would curb foreign oil speculators with real solutions and get us away from foreign oil entirely. He’d see the Patriot Act fully abolished, and the Justice Department clean out Washington. Most importantly, Al Gore has far more experience and well toned advice that Wesley Clark. He won’t allow the arms race to begin again and will see to it those who started it, are sent off to jail.
And in the instance of all these truly change invoking actions, we would reduce foreign aid alltogether and construct a policy of peace in the middle east. Israel, Palestine and Lybia would all be cut off from wasteful spending. Then they too, would teach the world what it means to be energy independent and you can bet he would win.
As the Kennedy of the modern age Mr. Gore has a duty to his country. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Accept the position, Mr. Gore as Vice President. No one else deserves it and Walt & Mearshmier should be your advisors. You’ve proven you are unbreakable, stronger than all the men in Washington combined. If Thomas Paine was alive he would applaud you. Lets spread the truth.
