I like how people (likely blacks) always state that Obama is black. Obama’s black father abandoned him when he was a couple months old and died about a year later, never to be in his life. His 100% white mother & her parents (white) completely raised Barack. And though he was raised 100% by his white family, he’s technically mulatto - not black. Ryan, much of what you say about Obama’s skin color is right. But I would like to inform you on something that you may not have known. Although he is technically 1/2 white and 1/2 black, in the history of this country that we live in, it is said that if you have one drop of black blood in you, then you are black. Unfortunately people don’t stop to ask Obama if his dad was Kenyan or about his mother’s Irish descent. Black is black in the United States and that’s just how it is for now.
Similarly, say you have an 8 ounce glass of whole milk. Now whether you put four drops or four tea spoons of chocolate syrup into the milk, it is still, regardless going to turn into chocolate milk.

The larger issueis that now that a man of color is the new Prez, some white Americans - after 400 years of skin color being the MOST important thing - all of a sudden want us all to be color-blind and object when people of color claim Obama as one of our own. Lots of us would have liked them to have felt that way a little sooner, say, 400 years ago!

Hey, ya’ll. A couple things I’d like to say, and questions I’d like to have answered. Why are we not celebrating equality together? I mean, seriously, we could talk about the last 400 years of racism…or we could celebrate the modern times of equality. Guess what, those of you who claim to be “of color”…Obama is half white, raised by the white side of his family. You get to claim him, we get to claim him. That’s the beauty. He is the american standard. This arrogance and reverse racism is killing me…kinda makes me bitter. There were plenty of white people who fought for equality in the 60’s and even before that. This has been a dual effort, whites and blacks working together against racism. Some of the rhetoric is so full of bitterness and self-rightousness, that clearly some people are too ignorant to truly celebrate in this accomplishment of the american people and the democratic party.

My thoughts about this photo are that it’s ridiculous that the media acts like the poor man is being outlandish by not wearing a shirt with his swimming trunks! Hey guys, do you wear trunks and a shirt when you swim !!?? I also look at this pic and think about how the pres is/should set an example for our people to be healthy, among so many other things. Our country needs to be lead out of our bad health habits. Unfortunatly I’m sure we wont loose the title of the fattest nation in the world during Obama’s term. I like the creative way ‘Jason’ said both blacks and whites get to ‘claim’ him. that’s cool.
When people talk real heavy with ‘ebonics’ it is often really hard to understand what is being said, it’s not any easier to read it. It fogs any intelegance that may be underneath, reduces the impact of what is being said, and reaches less people. How can people relate to you when they cant understand you? If Obama spoke to everyone this way, I couldn’t feel like he could represent me, if I couldn’t even understand him !
Several times I have spoken to a black person who says something I dont understand, I look confused, say “what?” and they say it 4 or 5 more imes the same way, and I still cant understand ! This is in the workplace, where comunication is essential! I have a large extended black family, and they can turn it on and off, they can easily talk so I dont understand them, but usually choose not too! When you choose to talk in a way that people cant understand you, or connect with you, it hurts both parties.

His posture and bearing in this photo are somewhat like the silver backed gorilla, except that the gorilla has a much more muscular build and more natural dignity. And before you go accusing me of racism, google “President Bush” and the word “monkey” and see how many times people referred to him in this manner. Can’t have it both ways, folks. The point is, it is just a simple, air brushed pic, that even with the polish doesn’t really look all that great. Get a life, people. Oh yeah, and learn to speak English too.
