Quotes

"And yet another said the United States cannot afford to risk the future of the free world with inexperience and immaturity in the White House. Who were they talking about? Every single one of those quotes came from the campaign of 1960, when the the Republicans attacked John Fitzgerald Kennedy for allegedly lacking the age and experience necessary to be president." - Al Gore, responding to criticism that Barack Obama lacks the experience to be president

Bio

Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., or Al Gore, was the 45th Vice President of the United States, serving from 1993-2001 under President Bill Clinton.

Al Gore previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1977-85) and the U.S. Senate (1985-93), representing Tennessee.

A prominent environmental activist, he shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change.

Al Gore was the Democratic nominee for president in 2000, ultimately losing to the Republican candidate George W. Bush in spite of winning the popular vote. A legal controversy over the Florida election recount was eventually settled in favor of Bush by the Supreme Court.

More recently, Gore has been an environmental activist, lecturing on the topic of global warming, which he labels "the climate crisis."

In 2006, Al Gore starred in the Oscar-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, regarding the environment. Gore organized the July 7, 2007 benefit concert Live Earth in an effort to raise awareness about climate change.

Today, Gore is chairman of Current TV, chairman of Generation Investment Management, a director on the board of Apple Inc., an advisor to Google's senior management, chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection, and a partner in the venture capital firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, heading that firm's climate change solutions group.

There remains speculation that Al Gore will enter the 2008 presidential race although he has said he has no plans to.
