Christopher Dodd, often known as Chris Dodd, is a lawyer and politician from Willimantic, Conn., and a Democrat in the U.S. Senate.
Dodd served as a U.S. Representative from Connecticut from 1975-1981, when he became a U.S. Senator. He served as general chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995-1997. He is now the state's senior Senator, serving with Joe Lieberman, and currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.
Chris Dodd is the longest-serving Senator in Connecticut history, the 14th most senior of current Senators and one of just three from the 1980 class who are still serving.
Dodd favors a one-year troop withdrawal timetable to end the Iraq War and is against warrantless surveillance. He has supported amending the Family Medical Leave Act to include paid leave, restoring the rule of law to the U.S. immigration system, and a corporate carbon tax to combat global warming.
Chris Dodd launched a bid for president, but officially dropped out of the 2008 race after unpromising results in the Iowa caucuses. He now supports Barack Obama.
The Connecticut senator married his second wife, Jackie Clegg Dodd, in 1999. The Dodds have two small children, Grace and Christina.
