Kwame Kilpatrick is the mayor of Detroit, Michigan. Elected at age 31, he became the youngest mayor in the history of Detroit, as well as the second youngest current mayor of any major U.S. city.
Kwame Kilpatrick briefly addressed the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He is currently Vice President of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors and its representative to the Democratic National Committee.
His mother, U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick, represents Michigan's 13th District in the House of Representatives, and is as the President of the Congressional Black Caucus in the 110th United States Congress.
He and chief of staff Christine Beatty denied during testimony in August that they had a sexual relationship, and it appears they may have perjured themselves during a probe into the dismissal of two police officers. Stay tuned.
