Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is a lawyer and the wife of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. Michelle grew up on the South Shore area of Chicago, graduating from Whitney Young High School in 1981 and going on to major in sociology and minor in African-American studies at Princeton, graduating cum laude in 1985.
Michelle Obama obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law in 1988.
She married Barack Obama in October 1992, and they have two daughters, Malia Ann (born 1999) and Natasha (Sasha, born 2001).
Nicknamed "The Closer" due to her assertive campaign style - more so than Barack's - Michelle Obama has given many a political stump speech for her husband's presidential campaign at various locations in the United States in 2007-08.
Michelle Obama continues to be his most trusted adviser and ally as the race for the Democratic nomination rages on.
