Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee was the Republican governor of Arkansas from 1996-2007 and is a candidate in the 2008 presidential election. He came out of nowhere to win the Iowa caucuses to begin the primary season but faded soon after, although he has won a series of Southern states.
Mike Huckabee is the author of several books, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, a public speaker, and a musician, playing bass guitar in his rock band, Capitol Offense. He is well known for having lost 110 pounds in a very short time and then advocating a healthy lifestyle.
Huckabee and his wife, Janet, have three grown children: John Mark, David, and Sarah. He hails from Hope, Arkansas - yes, the very same small town as President Bill Clinton.
While Mike Huckabee is a staunch pro-life social conservative, his fiscal record as Arkansas governor reflected a strong populist streak. He has run, by all accounts, a very successful campaign for the White House in 2008 on a shoestring budget, and may end up on a V.P. short list.
